‘From Prague Spring to Velvet Revolution’

TIRANA, Nov. 6 – “From Prague Spring to Velvet Revolution.” That’s the exhibition the embassy of the Czech Republic in Tirana has opened at the National Museum of History in Tirana to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the “Velvet Revolution” in the former Czechoslovakia.
Jan Hamacek, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic and Albanian Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta participated at the exhibition’s opening ceremony.
Speaking at the exhibition, Czech Ambassador to Albania Bronislava Tomasova described the Velvet Revolution as very important to reopening doors to human freedom and dignity.
The exhibition is composed of works made by prominent Czech photographers from 1968 till 1989 telling in sixty photos the story of the fight against communist regime in Czechoslovakia starting by the reform process Spring of Prague in 1968 followed by immolation of young students Jan Palach and Jan Zajat the beginning of 1969, and ending by the Velvet Revolution – a peaceful student manifestation and protest against communist regime on 17 November 1989.
The exhibition at the National History Museum in Tirana will remain open until November 18.
