TIRANA, July 26 – The association of the families of the Gerdec victims has criticized the Defense Ministry for the lack of the will to financially support them.
The victims’ families had asked the government to pay them a compensation for the dead family members from the Gerdec explosion of March 15, 2008 which killed 26 persons and injured 300 others.
The ministry replied saying that the institution is not responsible for that as it was up to the private company AlbDemil to offer the compensation.
Meanwhile the trial of 28 persons accused of abuse of post and other charges related to the 2008 explosion was postponed for the first week of September after the end of the summer vacation.
Ministry and army senior official have joined those of the private company responding to the charges.
The families of the victims are set to ask for the real compensation from the authorities blaming them for setting the place of the disposal of the ammunition and also choosing AlbDemil to do that not checking its working standards.
