Germany assists Albania set up first Software Cluster

TIRANA, July 20 – Germany is assisting Albania to establish the first Software Cluster at the Polytechnic University of Tirana, which aims at becoming a leader of the Albanian software industry.
The memorandum of cooperation was signed on Tuesday by the university’s rector Jorgaq Kacani and the GTZ programme director Erik Ruh.
Innovation and IT minister Genc Pollo and German ambassador to Albania Bernd Borchardt also attended the signing ceremony.
“By launching the Software Cluster we make another step towards our goal of turning Albania into a software producing country, a regional center of software creation and an exporter of these computer programs,” said minister Pollo.
Government says cooperation between the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the Polytechnic University, aims at further developing the Albanian software industry through the exchange and promotion of academic programns in the ICT, training of human resources and implementation of innovative services offered by the Albanian Cluster Software.
The IT and software industry is considered of strategic importance to the Albanian economy because of the productivity, efficiency and competitiveness it brings to industries.
