TIRANA, Jan 26 – The Konfindustria Business Association has announced that the global economic crisis is harming some key industries in Albania.
The business association also called on the government to undertake quick actions to prevent a further deterioration in Albania.
Konfindustria’s manager, Gjergj Buxhuku, said industries and services that are not part of the public sector were being negatively affected by the economic crisis.
Buxhuku said those effects have been felt in the economy from the second half of last year up until the present.
He said the most affected industries were mining and metallurgy, construction and beverage and meat processing.
Albania has until now coped well with the crisis, not feeling its effects on its inflation and other macroeconomic indicators.
But there are more and more voices warning that Albania will soon feel the impact of the crisis. Further, Albania’s energy crisis, with the lack of a proper power supply, has also affected such a development.
Businesses have also called on the central Bank of Albania to lower the interest rate and let second-tier banks lend more to companies.
