Government meets with tourism industry to discuss upcoming season

TIRANA, May.30 – The Ministries of Tourism and Internal Affairs organized a round table on Tuesday to discuss tourism in Albania. Local and national tourism operators met with government officials from various ministries, as well as experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the tourism season that has just begun in Albania. Foreign organizations like OSCE, GTZ and USAID were also among the participants.
The discussion focused on the ramification of the new law on businesses and other issues pertaining to the tourism season of 2007, such as tourism signals, private sector investment in the tourism field, infrastructure, the relationship of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation with local tourism companies, and local government resources to develop their tourism industries.
Minister Pango reconfirmed the government’s priority of developing both natural and cultural tourism as a means of improving Albania’s image. He mentioned some of the recent initiatives of the government to attract foreign and regional tourists, including the elimination of taxes on tourists entering Albania .
