TIRANA, Nov. 21 – Albania’s main opposition Democratic Party continues to denouce the government’s alleged ties to crime and drugs.
DP leader Lulzim Basha said after meetings with international representatives this week that Albania was going from cannabis cultivation to the trafficking of heroin and cocaine and money-laundering through construction projects and public-private-partnerships.
Basha said the fact that thousands of Albanians are leaving the country showed the people’s loss of hope with the criminal and corrupt officials at every level.
Basha added that the merging of crime with politics risks undoing all the country’s achievements so far. He has repeatedly called for an anti-mafia government.
