Heavy snow, rain hit Albania, cause damage

TIRANA, April 20 – Heavy snow and rain resumed last week after an almost dry and warm winter causing damage, concern and also blocking areas and some foreign tourists.
Snow blocked many areas in the north and east of the country, isolating several remote communes.
Hundreds of power supply pillars in these areas were damaged.
The resumed winter also surprised some French tourists, whose car was blocked in the northern mountain tourist commune of Theth. Police supported their recovery to the city. Authorities also assisted some shepherds who were blocked in the northeastern region of Tropoja together with their sheep. Police and helicopters sent some blankets and also food after they were blocked for two days last week.
But the snow and rain also sparked smiles in the authorities of the electricity supply in the country, pleased they will help fill the lakes of the hydropower plants located in that area.
