TIRANA, Aug. 1 – Albanians suffered through another week of bad news — murders, incidents and violent conflict.
In one incident the home belonging to Shkreta family in Mamurras, Kurbin district, was blown up with an explosive. The father of the family was shot dead earlier in July. That was a revenge attack after two of his sons had shot dead a nine-year old child of the Llani family.
In Fier city where Oltjon Toro, 36, shot dead 64-year old Nasi Memaj and seriously injured his wife following verbal disputes. Memaj was administering the flat where Toro lived.
But the worst came out late Monday when Hysen Biba, 29, threw from the maternity home in Tirana his three-day old son claiming it was not his. The baby passed away minutes after taken from the terrace unable to resist the shock. Biba claimed that his wife had illegal personal relations with other persons that had resulted in giving birth to their second son. He had also claimed the same with the first child and had also done the DNA test for that.
A father killed his 14-year old daughter in northern Albania after she declined to accompany sheep, according to the local media. Following that he also committed suicide.
A money changer was beaten, almost to death, and robbed some 10 million leks when he turned back home. He was taken to the hospital and police continue investigation.
Denis Shimilli was sentenced to nine months imprisonment after explosives were found at hist home. Police were notified by his wife following family frictions. Shimilli claimed he kept them for illegal fish hunting. Nude Luka, 65, was arrested Sunday for sexually touching a young teen in Tirana.
These are the news heard every day in the television stations and the newspapers.
True that is a sign that communication has gone up to the digital stage that helps greater inflow.
But such an ‘intensification’ of the crimes committed in the country come from what? Is there anyone, any institution or expert saying which are these reasons? Hardly so. And listening to such bad news is not any good thing at a time when the people, and also the government say that tourism is a main resource of income for the country.
Besides such crimes there have also been fatal accidents in the national roads.
A four-year old child died and another 6-year old one was seriously injured in an accident in Bulqize. Two cars hit each other, very likely due to high speed and disrespect of the driving rules. Three other persons in the cars were also injured.
Two persons died and six were injured in an accident in Fushe Bulqize when a minivan hit another car.
A couple from Kosovo, coming to Albania for tourism, died when their car went off the road in Fushe Milot. Their nine-year old child escaped alive though injured.
It is good that authorities have started to take care of the noise pollution too. That followed a complaint mentioned by Prime Minister Sali Berisha at a cabinet meeting. Following that police and other authorities created task forces to stop bars continue their music loud after 11 p.m.
But despite police efforts to keep situation (not only that of the noise from the coffee bars but security in general) under control, the recent crimes show that much more is needed to be done.
It has become almost regular that in summer time the number of road accidents increases drastically. That could be normally linked with the increased number of vehicles in the country, mainly Albanian immigrants and also Kosovo tourists coming to its shores. But the main reason is believed to be high speed and also the lack of respect for the driving rules. That is also added to the lack of driving infrastructure and the situation of the roads.
It is high time for the authorities and the police to be on alert and impose stricter rules of driving so that some lives are saved.
