TIRANA, Nov. 17 – With nearly 70 percent of Albanian companies refusing to answer INSTAT surveys, the government has put forward a draft law that would make it mandatory to report to the country’s statistical agency.
The data would go into a database that will help the development of business policies, according to the draft law.
The registration process will mean revealing the location of the business, ownership, type of activity, number of employees as well as to other economic data.
Some of the information will be provided directly by the National Registration Center.
In addition to policy orientation, the registration will also help get reliable data for local governments.
The draft law says administrators or owners of businesses that don’t follow the registration rules will face sanctions.
In its report to the Parliamentary Commission of Economy, INSTAT referred to the difficulties it encountered in the field when collecting information from businesses.
About 70 percent of Albania’s businesses refuse to provide data to INSTAT on their activity, according the organization.
So they have had to work in other ways to secure the data, such as with tax officials and the National Registration Center.
INSTAT is an independent organization operating under the authority of the Albanian government and serves as the country’s main statistical surveyor.
