TIRANA, May 18 – A specialized Italian plane will soon be deployed to find hard to spot cannabis growing areas in Albania, authorities said, following similar operations in the past.
Several years ago the plane was shot at while flying over Lazarat, a formerly marijuana-producing stronghold, which was busted and bought under law and order last year by Albanian authorities.
Last year, the same plane showed Albanian authorities where to conduct operations to destroy cannabis planted in different parts of Albania with the aim for transport to western European countries, often through Italy.
Albania’s government has made it clear that fighting drug traffic was a top priority in its work.
Officials have aimed to remove the country from a list a drug-producing countries.
