Central bank statistics showed Italy continued remaining the main destination of Albanian exports with 185 million euros, more than half of the total value of exports
TIRANA, May 28 – Albania exports increased by 47 percent year-on-year during the first four months of this year, according to foreign trade statistics published by the Bank of Albania. Data show Albania exported 345 million euros of goods during the January-April period, up from 235 million euros during the same period last year.
March 2010 registered the highest level of monthly exports Albania has had during the past six years with a total of 105 million euros. The situation was a result of a boom in electricity exports following the favourable hydro situation at the beginning of this year. Data show the Albanian Power Corporation, KESH, exported roughly 40 million euros worth of electricity in the first quarter of 2010. The additional exports in April brought 17 million euros into KESH’s coffers.
Central bank statistics showed Italy continued remaining the main destination of Albanian exports with 185 million euros during the first months of this year, more than half of the total value of exports.
Meanwhile, data from customs administration show Albania collected 34 billion leks ($319.9 million/249.4 million euro) in customs duty revenue in the first four months of the year, up 12% from a year earlier.
Customs revenue totalled 9.5 billion leks in April alone, 2 percent above the monthly plan and 14.2% higher as compared to April 2009, the administration said in a statement.
The country’s March customs revenue totalled 9.9 billion lek, up 27.4 percent year-on-year and 6 percent above the monthly plan.
Albania’s exports through April totalled 557,000 tonnes, up from 339,000 tonnes in the first four months of 2009.
