TIRANA, Nov. 16 – A top official of the European Union for enlargement, Christian Danielsson, said this week Albania’s proposed overhaul of the justice system is fundamental for the country’s EU membership bid.
Danielsson made the comments during a visit to Tirana this week, when he met with European Integration Minister Klajda Gjosha to discuss the country’s reforms and its path toward EU integration. Albania hopes to launch full membership talks next year.

Gjosha said the government is has welcomed the annual progress report issued earlier this month and was working to apply its recommendations.

“We should read it well, because that would help all the Albanian citizens to see not only the country’s progress but also the upcoming challenges,” said Gjosha.
European Union officials have long urged Albania to carry out fundamental reforms in an inclusive political spirit, particularly in terms of the justice system and strengthening the rule of law.
