TIRANA, June 10ؓtarting from June 1, Albanian Electroenergy Corporation (KESH), has continued to export energy after signing two new contracts with its counterpart in Kosovo, KEK, and with “Verbund”, an Austrian company.
“KESH, in addition to its legal obligation to supply the Distribution System Operator (OSSH) with electric energy, is exporting electricity in accordance with sale contracts signed with the said companies,” Muharrem Stojku said, head of the KESH Production Division.
According to Stojku, KESH will export 4-8 hrs of electricity per day, especially during peak hours when prices are higher. The export is made possible by the optimal use of the Fierza basin.
KESH started exporting electric energy on January 1, 2009, toward Kosovo and Greece, and has continued to renew export contracts or sign new ones on a monthly base. Official sources from the corporation declare that about 407 million KV hrs have been exported in 2009. Export revenues are estimated at 12-15 million (depending on the source), a much needed source of cash to the stranded financial situation of the corporation.
Stojku declared that electric energy export will continue for the rest of the summer.
