TIRANA, July 26 – Some lawmakers used the last session of Albania’s parliament before going on vacation to get into a physical altercation with each other.
Lawmakers from the opposing sides — governing Democratic Party and main opposition Socialist Party — started a physical confrontation when the session was voting on amendments to the budget.
The opposition had claimed the government budget did not take into consideration the effects of the crisis.
Prime Minister Sali Berisha mentioned the rise of the pensions and salaries as the main tool to show the success of his governing.
The opposition considered that hike laughable and said the government should first of all fight corruption and monopolies exploited by their ministers and the premier.
The opposition claims the country is in an economic crisis and accuses the government of making demagogy claiming there is no crisis but only growth of the country’s economy.
The hardest job Monday seemed for security who had to separate two infighting groups.
