LEZHA, Dec. 10 – Aleksander Ndoka, a Lezha Municipality councilman and brother of the former Socialist MP Arben Ndoka, was shot dead in front of his home Saturday, police said

The 48-year-old was found in his vehicle in the early hours of the morning, and authorities believe he was ambushed by yet-to-be identified assailants.

Police detained several people for questioning, but has not charged anyone yet. Conflicts between the victim and his family and others are being investigated as the potential cause for the shooting.

The victim, a father of four, had no criminal record in Albania, but his extended family has a history of public accusations relating to ties between politics and crime.

Ndoka’s brother, Arben Ndoka, resigned his seat as a Socialist MP as part of the decriminalization law, after proof came out he had a criminal conviction in Italy.

The victim’s son, Samuel Ndoka, is currently in prison for election day violence in June, after he was accused of attacking and wounding an opposition activist.

The 18-year-old was arrested several months later for illegal arm possession and for making threats. He was given special permission to attend his father’s funeral.
