TIRANA, April 8 – The consumer price index in March was 0.6 percent higher compared to the previous month, according to the Institute of Statistics.
The annual rate in March 2009 was 1.6 percent. A year before the annual rate of inflation was 4.6 percent mainly due to the increase of the price of electricity in March 2008. During March 2008 – March 2009 the price of this item didn’t change and consequently the inflation rate in March 2009 was 1.6 percent.
The index of “Food and non-alcoholic beverage” group signed an increase of 1.4 percent, 0.5 percent higher than a month ago. The highest increase was signed in the subgroups of “fruits” and “vegetables include potatoes” by 5.4 and 5.3 percent respectively.
The index of “Alcoholic drinks and tobacco” signed an increase of 0.2 percent.
The index of “Clothing and footwear” group signed a decrease of 0.3 percent.
The index of “Transport” group increased 0.8 percent with diesel 3.0 percent higher, petrol 0.6 percent higher and interurban transport 1.0 percent higher.
