TIRANA, Nov 18s part of a new action plan for 2010-12, Mediterranean energy regulators aim to strengthen the regulatory framework for promoting a stable, integrated Euro-Mediterranean energy market.
The plan, approved in Cyprus last week by MEDREG (the Association of Mediterranean Energy Regulators for Electricity and Gas) focuses on customer issues and training.
The group also created a new task force to improve dialogue and cooperation on global issues affecting energy markets, with surveys, studies, training courses and exchange programs, MEDREG said in a statement.
The meeting, hosted by the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (www.cera.org.cy), was attended by 16 energy regulators from the Mediterranean Basin and representatives from other international organizations.
Supported by the European Commission, MEDREG (www.medreg.ipi.it) was created in 2006 to coordinate regulators from countries in Europe and the Balkans — including Greece, Turkey, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Slovenia, as well as the Middle East and North Africa.
