TIRANA, Oct. 7 – About 250 miners in Fushe Arrez rallied to protest the suspension of work by Beralb, their employer.

The miners demanded government intervention to resolve the situation.

Meanwhile, the company announced it is collaborating with the Ministry of Industry and Energy for the verification of its financial situation, while promising full payment of miners’ salaries until Jan. 31, 2016.

The town of Fushe Arrez is among the most problematic areas in the north of Albania in terms of the high level of poverty.

It also holds some of Albania’s largest chrome deposits.
