TIRANA, July 16 – Government has increased the minimum wage to 19,000 lek (190 dollars) a month up from 18,000 lek for all employees of public and private sector after raising public sector wages from 2 to 12 percent.
The minimum wage will be benefited for 174 working hours a month. The decision will be effective starting from July 1, 2010, the same as the wage and pension hike.
The changes come one week after government approved increases in social insurance contributions by raising the minimum wage to calculate insurance to 16,820 lek, up from 16,120 lek.
Under the changes, the minimum monthly contribution immediately increases for all branches of insurance, going from 4,497 lek per month total to 4,693 lek per month.
