TIRANA, Jan. 30 – Albania’s Ministry of Interior has launched a new operation, dubbed “Force of Law,” and will shortlist 50 out of 200 crime investigation specialists coming from all over the country’s police forces to join the capital’s special task force, which aims to combat criminal groups operating locally and abroad.
Local media reported that some candidates have already been disqualified according to the police vetting, which excluded all officials who have issues with disciplinary measures taken against them.
Another ground for disqualification for some candidates is the lack of a security certificate, necessary to join the anti-criminal task force which operates based on highly classified material.
The headquarters of this operation will be next to the State’s General Police in the capital. Seven foreign investigators will join this operation in addition to the fifty new local specialists, among whom an FBI agent.
Since its launch last November, the Force of Law is reported to have conducted two undercover operations, while reports speculate that around 40 criminal groups are currently operating in the country.
