TIRANA, Dec. 26 – The Central Elections Committee has decided to end a move by the Democratic Party to add a seat in northeastern Kukes district, a Democratic stronghold, and take it away from Berat, a Socialist area.
The CEC is in the preparation of the infrastructure of the June 23 parliamentary elections. They will be fundamental and crucial for the country’s move toward EU.
Albania needs to fulfill 12 recommendations the EU has set three years ago. For the moment it needs to pass three piece of legislation which cannot be done without the vote of the opposition.
The Socialists say, on their side, it is useless to pass laws which are never applied and take the case of the Fier district where the governing Democrats have tried to grab the posts of leadership in the local authorities despite results in the last year’s polls.
