Much more needed for the road toward Europe

TIRANA, Oct. 18 – Last week Foreign Minister Edmond Haxhinasto was in Brussels to take part at the NATO meeting and also meet with top European Union officials.
Among others he also met with the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, Stefan Fuele to discuss on the visa liberalization process and the continuous progress in the implementation of reforms for the fastest possible integration to the EU.
Haxhinasto thanked Fuele for his ongoing support for the liberalization of visas, which will be beneficial for all Albanians. He also assured Commissioner Fuele that the Government will take all necessary measures for the information of the Albanian public on the rules of movement in the Schengen area.
They also exchanged views on the performance of Albania’s EU integration process.
Haxhinasto stressed the will and commitment of the Albanian Government for the implementation of instituted reforms in view of materializing this major goal for Albania.
He also assured the Commissioner for the firm will of the governing majority for an institutional dialogue, on the basis of constitutional principles while addressing issues of transparency and electoral reform.
As expected Fuele hailed Albania’s progress and urged more reforms and also urged political dialogue, that is indispensable in the integration road.
Haxhinasto held a separate meeting with the Rapporteur for the liberalization of visa regime with Albania in EP, the Slovenian Euro-Parliamentarian, Tanja Fajon, whom he thanked for all her work in support of visa liberalization process in our country, which constitutes an exceptional event in the history of Albanian people.
He also informed Fajon on the ongoing information campaign by the Albanian Government, in view of raising the awareness of all citizens regarding obligations for the achievement of this new European standard.
