TIRANA, May 18 – Italy will finance development projects, worth €4 million, in 11 Albanian municipalities as part of a debt-for-development swap deal between the two governments.

“This program is one of the best examples of how good will by both governments can be reflected on real and tangible changes with a direct impact on the citizens’ lives,” said Albanian Finance Minister Arben Ahmetaj at an award ceremony this week.

Italian ambassador to Tirana Alberto Cutillo announced that the two governments have also successfully concluded negotiations for the signing of a new debt swap agreement for an additional €20 million also aimed at supporting the implementation of the Albanian government’s social policies

The new 11 projects will enhance school infrastructure, social inclusion for children with disabilities and build a Roma settlement on the outskirts of Tirana.

Some 31 debt-for-development projects are being funded for a total of €11.7 million, of which 13 have already brought to completion.
