Muslim mufti says no idea on source of money aid

TIRANA, Sep 8 – Police in capital Tirana questioned for hours a Muslim mufti who was allegedly to take some money from some sources in Saudi Arabia.
Lushnja mufti Tomorr Borici was called for questioning in Tirana and was asked from the secret police officers for more than four hours.
Following that he did not give any statement despite the presence of journalists
Some $50,000 were blocked with an Albanian student , Fadil Bardhoshi, in Medina University in Saudi Arabia. When asked the student, who wanted to pass the cash through the airport, said they were for the Lushnje mufti for the reconstruction of the mosque in his town.
The student turned out to be a suspect as being part of a network of suspicious money use.
Borici was asked on the origin of the money and the way they were to be used.
Unconfirmed police sources told reporters that Borici had denied of having any link or idea about the money or their origin. He has said that he would welcome any funding from the believers, including the Albanian student coming from Saudi Arabia.
He has also said that he knew that Bardhoshi, brother of one of imams in capital Tirana, was in conctact with some sheiks in Saudi Arabia, who wished to fund projects in Albania, like mosque reconstruction in Lushnja.
Investigators said that the mufti could again be called for questioning.
Albania keeps a close eye on alleged efforts of money laundry or terrorism activities, in close cooperation with international counterparts.
