NATO delegation visits Tirana

TIRANA, Jan. 23 – A NATO delegation headed from Gen. Ivan Fenton held a visit in Tirana to meet with the country’s top defense officials. They discussed on the Albanian army’s reform and its commitment to peacekeeping operations in the world. Albanian vice minister Petrit Karabina stressed his government’s determination to increase the funding for the army to the figure of two percent of the GDP as required from NATO.
Albania hopes to join NATO as a full member next year.
Karabina also met with head of the SEEBRIG international brigade commander Gen. Neyko Nenov who visited Tirana. Albania is part of the South East European Brigade, or SEEBRIG, created in 1998 to coordinate military and security efforts among countries that at the time were not NATO members.
