TIRANA, Aug 17 – New Health Minister, Anila Godo, says she is determined that, during her term, fighting corruption will be a main goal of her work.
She said that tenders previously conducted by the health authorities were a main area of corruption.
Godo, appointed to the post only late last month, was very harsh about those doctors who asked for payments from patients while working for the public service.
The minister said, during a visit to the western port city of Durres and Kavaja, that such doctors would be punished, if such claims are proven, and their right to practice medicine could be suspended.
She pledged that hospitals would be supplied with medicine in September after shortages were continuously reported during the year.
At the same time, she was very clear that no public employee in the health system would be fired for political reasons. (Tirana Times Staff)
