New President slowly starts taking over his duties

TIRANA, June 18 – Albania’s President-elect Bujar Nishani is slowly getting up in the chair of the country’s number one.
For the moment he is still enjoying the moments of congratulations coming from all around the world from his counterparts and leaders of international institutions hailing him in the new post.
He has officially resigned from the post of the interior minister but no replacement is yet named.
Meanwhile his seat in the parliament was replaced with Vath Tabaku.
Prime Minister Sali Berisha offered an official dinner Tuesday for all the Democratic Party lawmakers and also a few others, mainly their allies and one or two from the opposition coalition.
It served as a good moment for Berisha to thank Ilir Meta of the Socialist Movement for Integration who with three votes was decisive in Nishani’s election.
Nishani is also present more in the local media with interviews in which he tries to clarify his stand in the new post.
He also clarified rumors on his health.
During these days a top physician, Mentor Petrela also spoke about his surgery a few years ago. Petrela said that Nishani was treated for brain cavernoma, or malformations.
Nishani said that he had undergone an operation in a foreign clinic in 2008 when he was expected to make a full recovery within 18 months.
Nishani, 45, has served twice in the cabinet of Prime Minister Sali Berisha, as Interior and Justice Minister.
Meanwhile he exploits meetings he has in the post as a ‘resigned’ minister also for his future powers. Last week he met with Chinese ambassador in Tirana Ye Hao to say that he hopes Albania and China will strengthen cooperation to further the development of their
bilateral relations.
Albania and China enjoy a traditional friendship.
“I hope Albania and China will enhance cooperation in all sectors, including economy, to further the development of the bilateral relations between our two countries,” he said.
That is clearly in line with the government’s efforts to renew close ties with the Asian superpower.
Meanwhile the president still in power, Bamir Topi has gone to a trip to Jerusalem to take part at a meeting on the future challenges held there and organized from the Israeli president Shimon Peres.
Topi exploited the place to meet with many international actors, like former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and many others.
