TIRANA, May 31 – Albania Transport Minister Sokol Olldashi has called for European Union support to establish a Transport Community Treaty for South East Europe in Tirana. The appeal was made in Germany’s Leipzig during a meeting Olldashi had with EU Transport Commissioner Sim Kallas at the International Transport Forum.
Minister Olldashi also called on the European Commissioner to support the recognition of Albanian driving licences at a community level in order to eliminate bilateral talks with each country. Albanian driving licences are currently recognized only by Italy under an agreement signed by the two countries.
The EU Transport Commissioner hailed the Albanian government’s policies on free movement of people and goods as one of the main components in Albania’s integration process and further development of the economy.
The 2010 Forum took place in Leipzig from 26 to 28 May 2010, focusing on the theme “transport and innovation”
