TIRANA, Oct. 15 – The main opposition Democratic Party on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of the Socialist Party of not doing enough to remove two lawmakers from parliament though one has said he will resigned and one is in jail facing charges.
Gerti Bogdani, a Democratic Party lawmaker, said that Rama was keeping as members of parliament Mark Frroku and Arben Ndoka on purpose to serve his needs.
Frroku was arrested for more than six months ago because he was wanted for a murder in Belgium.
The law says that a lawmaker cannot keep his seat if he is not taking part in parliament activities for six months, a condition Frroku has already met.
Frroku is leader of the Christian Democratic Party, which harshly responded Tuesday saying that the parliament should first remove Democrat leaders and politicians who “have killed people” and abused with their post while in power.
Ndoka, the other MP in questions, said he would resign in early September saying he was freeing his Socialist Party from having to deal with the accusation against him and so he can clear his name.
Yet apparently Ndoka is yet to officially resign, the Democrats say. The parliament mandate commission must have signed letters of resignation to proceed with replacing MPs.
