Opposition seeks international support in political fight

TIRANA, July 13 – Socialist Party leader Edi Rama and a delegation visited neighboring Greece to meet with their left-wing counterparts, who are currently in power there. They also met other supranational personalities taking part at a meeting.
The delegation included Vangjel Dule of the Human Rights Union Party, which serves the rights of the Greek minority in Albania and is an ally of the Socialists.
The met at an economic forum organized by the Socialist International organization, headed by Greece’s Prime Minister Georgios Papandreou.
Rama met with Papandreou asking for his support in the fight against the governing Democrats of Prime Minister Sali Berisha on last year’s vote transparency.
He also made efforts of urging Albanian immigrants there to come and take part to cast their ballot at the local elections expected next spring.
During the forum Rama also met with European Commission Foreign Policy chief Cathrine Ashton, leader of the European Socialists Louis Ayala and head of the French left Segolene Royal.
