TIRANA, June 15 – Joint teams of police and employees of the state-owned power company, OSHEE, have continued their crackdown on identifying and arresting electricity thieves and cutting off illegal connections to the power grid, the General Police Directorate said in a statement.
Across the country, police said, 55 operations had taken place recently with 3,188 power connections checked.
“As a result of checks carried out in the field, on business and residential customers, 14 cases of electricity theft were detected. Three people were arrested on charges accused of stealing electricity and seven people were declared wanted at large. Four others are being prosecuted but were not detained,” police said in a statement.
OSHEE also cut the power supply to 1,088 customers who owed money, authorities said.
“The State Police and OSHEE are determined to bring the full weight of the law on those who abuse with the power supply,” the statement added.
