Otranto tragedy commemorated, call on help from government

VLORA, March 28 – Many people, including those of the families of the dead victims, threw flowers into the sea Monday to commomoerate the death of 84 albanians at a tragedy in the Adriatic Sea 14 years ago.
The same day 14 years ago the Albanian ship “Kateri i Rad쳢 sank into the sea and 84 Albanians died, allegedly hit from an Italian marine ship. The Albanian ship with 120 people on board managed to get in Italian territorial waters, but soon after was approaching the coast of Otranto in Italy, collided with the Italian military ship “Sibilla”. Besides 84 dead 24 other bodies have not been found yet.
fourteen years after there is no one found guilty or punished. Prosecutors in Lecce, Italy have blamed the Albanians for the tragedy for not responding to calls from the Italian shiup.
the Otranto tragedy was considered as the culmination of the cracy 1997 when thousands of Albanians were killed after army depots were looted from frustrated people losing their life savings at the failed pyramid investment schemes.
