TIRANA, June 10 – The Shengjin port in northern Albania has been made available to passengers again with a ferry line to Italy’s Brindisi, resuming passenger operations after they were suspended in 2010.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta described the new passenger terminal as a strategic investment serving the local community and all northern Albania.
“We will soon witness the start of works for the construction of a yacht port, a Euro 5 million investment which will make Shengjin more attractive to foreign tourists,” said Meta.
The Shengjin Port, which is currently having its basin deepened, is actively involved in maritime transport handing around 300,000 tonnes a year, ranking second after the Durres Port. The port also serves neighboring Kosovo to handle trade exchanges.
The two other ports of Vlora and Saranda in southern Albania offer both passenger and freight transport.
