Police claim fewer crimes

TIRANA, Sep 4 – Hysni Burgaj, head of police in the country, claimed this week that this year there have been less crimes committed in the country compared to the last year.
In a meeting with top policemen around the country Burgaj hailed their work especially during the summer time. Burgaj said that according to their statistics there have been 708 less penal crimes compared to the same period last year.
He also said there have been 7 less murders.
That figure sparked a cry in the local media.
Every day we are listening to murders. A businessman in Durres, another one in Tirana, other persons around the country are shot dead every day.
So, at least mentioning that figure at this moment was not at the proper one.
“Life security” and “justice” have no meaning in Albania, writes a local newspaper.
The local media says police have hidden some statistics. Shqip newspaper reported that according to her figures there have been 96 dead victims compared to 75 as police said (7 less than 82 in the first months of 2012).
Albanians are also reminded of a fact they learnt from Burgaj himself last month. Well, he was holding a news conference together with an Italian counterpart, who said that the cannabis planted only in southernmost village of Lazarat, some 900 tons per year, was worth some 4.5 billion euro in market value. That figure speaks on its own. It is half the country’s annual GDP.
Albanians also learnt that their country has remained a country of origin for such a drug.
At a time when they also listen hos police have stopped a ton of cannabis bound for Italy or Greece and arrested a few persons. Or how they clean up small parcels planted with some hundreds cannabis plants.
And these policemen do not dare at all to get into Lazarat, which is all planted with that cannabis.
All these show that it is not time for top policeman to boast of achievements but to get to tough jobs clean the country of crimes and especially of illegal drug traffic.
