TIRANA, Jan. 3 – Police was likely the only public institution working non-stop during all the days of the New Year festivities.
They had to cope with an increase of the influx of the Albanian immigrants in the border crossings and also keeping road traffic under control. But they also had to deal with the usual focus _ fighting organized crime and also tiny crimes.
Police arrested four persons in Kamza, Tirana district who had allegedly stolen a car. They are also suspects for other thefts.
Another teenager in Bathore was also arrested for theft.
Other persons were arrested in capital Tirana for opposing police requests or for illegal weapon possession.
A 20 year old man was arrested in Kavaja after he had stolen some money from a person at a fuel station.
In southeastern Korca police issued a document for keeping a man away from his wife whom he physically abused.
A 42-year old man was arrested in Tirana and accused of stealing a Nissan Novara car. He had later asked a certain amount of money from the owner to give the car back. He was arrested when he was taking the money.
Theft remained a top issue to deal with during these days. Many persons were arrested for stealing during these days.
Other arrested persons were ones who had been sentenced and had not served their imprisonment.
In southwestern port city of Vlora police arrested two persons who were allegedly trying to transport some 150 kilograms of cannabis sativa to Italy They had packed the drugs at their truck that was supposed to go to Italy to import vegetables and fruits.
