Police in the local polls

TIRANA, May 5 – Police will play a key role in the May 8 local elections.
The law-enforcement institution is a major factor and partner for the polls infrastructure.
But the opposition Socialist Party has continuously criticized police and its top officials of siding openly with the governing Democratic party, which has been turned down by the top policeman.
Meanwhile the importance of police is also noted from the fact that all western ambassadors have regularly either visited or met with the top officials there.
Police have said they have made all the necessary preparations for the electoral process on May 8 and later. They have trained the forces on how to behave.
The Albanian state police is well prepared, the state police is fully aware of having the need of free elections, free access, supporting the citizens.
The OSCE will also support in helping in some parts of communication in more remote areas of the country through providing satellite telephones.
