TIRANA, March 27 – A person was killed and another wounded on Thursday in the city of Fier after shooting a firearm in the direction of the police patrol.

This happened when a group of at least four persons, local media reported, tried to break in a house to rob it; local police, which was notified as the burglary was taking place, sent a patrol car.

According to a local police statement, officers “faced masked persons who were armed with automatic guns and who shot their firearms to police employees’ direction. In proportional reaction conditions, from exchanging fire, one of the authors was wounded while another passed away. Both were masked and armed with guns, which were taken by the police as evidence.”

The two other perpetrators also shot to the direction of the police, but were able to escape due to bad weather conditions and late night hours in an unidentified vehicle.

Albania’s government hailed the policemen as heroes protecting public order after shooting in Fier, with Prime Minister Edi Rama congratulating them himself at a public event.
