Albanian authorities are failing to implement court rulings, the mother says. The case should be resolved ‘without prejudice to the rights of the Polish citizens – the mother and her two children,’ Polish Embassy tells Tirana Times.
TIRANA, March 26 – A Polish mother of two has made a touching public plea in the Albanian media for help in gaining access to her two children. She accuses her former Albanian husband of illegally holding her children.
Several Albanian media outlets have published a letter Magdalena Krawczyk sent to Prime Minister Edi Rama, in which she indicates mistreatment at the hands of Albanian authorities.
Two Albanian courts have granted the Polish mother custody and the father visitation rights, but the court bailiffs have failed to execute the court orders, the mother told an Albanian television.
The couple had married in the United States a decade ago, Krawczyk told News24 TV. Due to immigration paperwork problems they had to return to Europe.
Krawczyk indicates in her letter her Albanian husband had tricked her into going to Poland without the children, then tried to turn them against her. She said Albanian police had detained her when she tried to see her children.
In a statement to Tirana Times, the Polish Embassy in Tirana said it is aware of the case and has worked to offer assistance.
“The consul is in a permanent and direct contact with the person concerned and consistently extends all possible support and assistance. The embassy hopes that the matter will be resolved in accordance with the Albanian legislation and international standards, without prejudice to the rights of the Polish citizens – the mother and her two children,” the embassy said in a statement.
Krawczyk has moved to Tirana to pursue the child custody case. She works at a local call center while she waits for the court rulings to be implemented, she told News 24.
