Political leaders continue exchange of corruption accusations

TIRANA, Jan. 14 – The opposition Socialist Party and the governing Democratic Party continued to exchange accusation of the alleged corruption of their top leaders.
The Socialists insist every day with facts on how Prime Minister Sali Berisha’s children exploit his post for favorable deals with international businessmen and putting into question the big amounts of money they have secured in 2011 according to their public income statement.
On the other side, the governing Democrats bring out their spokeswoman every day to accuse Socialist leader Edi Rama of favors to his wife and her family. They mention a building in capital Tirana which, they say, was approved in a conflict of interest from Rama. The Tirana city hall, now run from the Democrats, also entered the fight taking the case of that building to the prosecutor’s office to check the invalidity, as it said, of taking the permission.
They also question the source of some 100 million leks secured from Rama’s wife.
It is obvious that on the eve of the electoral campaign the two camps have focused on the fight against their leaders.
There has practically been no formal answer to the accusations by either side other than to repeate the attack on the opponent.
At the same time, the local media reported a protest held at the building of Rama’s wife was not as announced made by the neighbours, but rather by people related to government officials and other public sector employees.
