TIRANA, Feb. 1 – The country is involved in a daily political fight that besides helping the political groupings mature towards democratic standards also greatly damages the country’s efforts toward integration and especially its economy.
Albania is a poor country still much in need of outside assistance and especially of direct foreign investment.
International money is always held back when hearing the country’s daily squabbling which they fear could threaten their investment.
Albania has been playing well in the context of the world’s financial crises. The country did not suffer directly but it should now pay attention to its aftereffects.
At such vague political timing the Wall Street Journal still considered Albania among the Best Countries in which to invest in 2010.
Albania is one of the wealthiest lands in natural resources per square mile in the world. With amazing mountains, beaches, lakes, rivers, forests, and rich soil it has all it needs to meet the needs of its citizens. Underneath this land lies billions of proven barrels of oil, natural gas, gold, platinum, copper, the largest chrome reserves in Europe, bauxite, nickel, cobalt, magnesium, ores, marble, granite, coal and much more. Albania is rapidly building its infrastructure.
Albania’s projected growth for 2010 will be the highest in the Europe – due to a series of government initiatives in recent years that have helped Albania to cope with the impact of the world recession.
Albanian economy has been able to progress despite a number of significant shocks in the world’s economy.
The Albanian economy had the best growth in Europe last year, and this trend is expected to continue this year as well. Foreign investments in Albania increased 59 percent in 2009, according to the central Bank of Albania’s figures.
The government has also been praised for creating the environment to attract investors to Albania. The country is still constructing roads and improving infrastructure. The efforts on improving the legal system to protect investors are another focus of interest.
Sure it is not all rosy but still the country’s politicians, be they in power or in opposition, should really take care of preserving the good omens and taking away the bad effects of the global crisis. That basically means more cooperation among themselves.
