TIRANA, Dec. 15 – “Potemkin lock Venice rap” is the new exhibition that has opened at the Promenade Gallery of the southern coastal city of Vlora bringing an uncommon project by Luxembourg artist Bert Theis. Brought in Albania in cooperation with the Gallery on the Move “Potemkin Lock Venice Rap” consists in a sound project realized for the Luxembourg Pavilion at 46th Venice Biennale 1995Ša rap music with Duchamp’s voice, selected for the special projects program. Gallery on the Move starts in 2011 with Bert Theis’s project, as a satellite project for contemporary art, which means that Gallery on the Move does not have its own exposition space. In order realize and present a project, Gallery on the Move collaborates with others art institutions.
Born in 1952 in Luxembourg, Bert Theis lives and works in Luxembourg and Milan. He belongs to that generation of artists that emerged at the beginning of the 90’s, striving to drop their operative strategies into public space, anchoring them to social contexts and relational modalities, without, however, removing them from the category of works of art which they are. He is the founder of Isola Art Center, Milan, Office for Urban Transformation, Milan/Mexico City and also professor at NABA Milan. In 2009 Theis curated “Territoria 4/The Great Leap” at Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci, Prato.
