Prague pledges further support to Albania’s integration process

PRAGUE, Dec. 8 – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ilir Meta met with his Czech counterpart Jan Kohout during his visit to Prague to take part at the European Socialist Parties’ meeting.
The two discussed Albania’s European integration and further deepening of bilateral relations.
Meta and Kohout assessed the relations between Albania and the Czech Republic as very good and expressed mutual willingness to develop them to a higher level.
Meta expressed the gratitude of the Albanian government for the Czech support for NATO membership and the assistance provided during the application for EU membership of Albania, which was accepted by the Czech Presidency of the Union in April this year.
Kohout expressed his appreciation for the successes achieved by Albania in terms of reforms and European integration process, considering 2009 as a historic year for Albania.
Meta and Kohout agreed to establish the relations between the two countries at a higher level, by expressing willingness for a special partnership between the two countries in bilateral level and in terms of further European integration.
Prague is now to run the enlargement department of the European Commission.
