TIRANA, May 10 – President Bujar Nishani traveled to Zagreb for a state visit to Croatia this week where he met with the country’s highest authorities.
President Nishani held a tete-a-tete meeting with Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic
and chaired talks between delegations, which focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, the regional agenda and international issues.
The President considered the visit as extremely important by highlighting the excellent relations that exist between the two countries and the common Euro-Atlantic values they share.
Nishani considered Croatia’s EU experience as a valuable example for Albania.
“We consider Croatia as the country which can transmit the spirit, the voice and the problems of the region in the European Union,” Nishani told his counterpart, while highlighting that the European path remains the only alternative for Albania.
The two presidents also discussed about international issues including joint commitment in the fight against terrorism and organized crime and the refugee crisis.
Economic cooperation was high on the agenda during the President’s visit to Croatia.
Nishani and his counterpart Grabar-Kitarovic addressed the Croatian-Albanian business forum organized by the respective chambers of commerce, which saw the participation of several entrepreneurs from both countries.
President Nishani said that the forum will serve for the intensification of economic relations between the two countries.
The Adriatic-Ionian gas pipeline and the Adriatic-Ionian motorway were frequently mentioned in the forum as excellent opportunities for cooperation for businesses from both countries.
Nishani pointed out that economic relations lag behind excellent political relations and that the former must be improved.
As part of his official trip to Croatia, President Nishani also held talks with the country’s Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic and the Speaker of Parliament of Croatia Zeljko Reiner.
