TIRANA – President Bamir Topi approved the new cabinet nominations on Tuesday, officially removing former Economy Minister Dritan Prifti from the government.
Ilir Meta will move from the post of foreign minister to that of economy minister, retaining the deputy prime minister position.
Edmond Haxhinasto moves from the post of deputy minister of transport to that of foreign minister.
Prifti was sacked from his post, and keeps only the post of member of parliament representing his Socialist Movement for Integration Party.
As expected, Prifti expressed his displeasure on the way he was removed from the post. He said that he had been under pressure for a long time, without identifying where the pressure came from.
Prifti was fired from the post at a party meeting held while he was attending the funeral ceremony of his grandmother.
Prifti said that he would continue to stay with the party but also reminded everyone that he had earned the votes by himself. He also mentioned a few names and denounced the creation of clans in the small party.
He also turned down corruption accusation levied against him by the opposition, saying he had done everything legally.
