Private educational institutions have asked for VAT (Value Added Tax) to be removed from their fiscal obligations, reports the local press (Standard, 23.10.2009). The Minister of Education and Sciences, Myqerem Tafaj, met on the 22nd of October with representatives of the private high school educational institutions and presented them with the government’s priority in the field of education for better quality in high school and university studies. The Minister, Tafaj, asked the private high school institutions to invest in recruiting more and more highly qualified teachers, assistants and professors and encourage to return to Albania larger numbers of Albanians having studied abroad, in accord with the spirit of the program “Brain Gain”.
Now that the number of students has increased, the attention of the government during the new mandate will be given to the quality of the education. “The government is putting all its will to create facilities for university private education. The reform of the system of financing in the private high education will be the priority of the government during this mandate,” declared the Minister of Education and Sciences.
The representatives of the private high school educational institutions made calls for fiscal reforms, the primary being the request for the Value Added Tax (VAT) to be removed from their fiscal obligations and development of real possibilities to encourage the private sector.
