TIRANA, September 7 – The Producer Price Index, (PPI) registered a slight increase in the second quarter, a report published by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) has shown. The index measuring the average change in selling prices received by domestic producers of goods and services over time, showed PPI in the second quarter of 2010 increased by 0.3 percent compared to the first quarter and 0.2 percent year-on-year.
The mining and quarrying industry PPI increased by 1.1 percent with producer prices of the “quarrying of energy-producing materials” rising by 1.8 percent.
PPI in the manufacturing sector also increased by 0.2 percent with producer prices in ” food industry” growing by 0.2 percent, “Manufacture of tanning and dressing of leather, with 2.1 percent and “Manufacture of basic metals” with 0.4 percent.
The PPI in the “textile industry” activity, “Manufacture of electrical and electronic products” dropped by 0.9 percent and 1.1 percent, respectively.
Producer Price Index for domestic production reached 105.9 percent registering an increase by 0.4 percent compared with previous quarter. The situation was a result of price increases in the “Mining and quarrying” products by 1.2 percent and “manufacturing” by 0.1 percent.
The export price index reached 118.0 percent with prices increasing by 0.2 percent compared with previous quarter. Prices in the manufacturing industry rose by 0.3 percent and “Mining and quarrying” industry with 2.8 percent.
