Public debt increase in 2008

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) the public debt of Albania in 2008 increased by 3.1 % in its ratio to the GDP. Quoting the declaration made in Washington by the Italian Minister of Economy and Finances and Governor of Italy at the IMF, Giulio Tremonti (charged to present periodically economic reports on a number of Balkanic countries), the local press reports that in 2008 the ratio of the public debt against GDP passed from 52.8 % to 55.9 % (Gazeta Shqiptare, 4.05.2009). It is also reported that the deficit of current accounts has reached 14.9 % of the Gross Domestic Production (GDP).(Tirana Times Staff)
