TIRANA, Sep. 29 – An exhibition dedicated to renowned Italian composer Giacomo Puccini has opened at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet. The exhibition by Bonuccelli Adpower will remain open until October 8.
Two years ago, Albania joined world celebrations to mark Puccini’s 150 birth anniversary with a series of events.
With their almost universal and timeless appeal, Puccini’s operas consistently rank as the most frequently performed in theatres worldwide.
There are approximately forty items related to Puccini’s career, including rarely seen original sketches for his acclaimed operas “Madame Butterfly” and “La Boh鮥.”
In addition to original manuscripts, previous exhibitions held in Italy included a display of first-edition librettos, personal letters, a period poster and playbills, souvenir postcards, and rare material linked to Puccini’s relationship with such legends as Enrico Caruso and Arturo Toscanini.
The Italian composer’s operas, including La boh鮥, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, and Turandot, are among the most frequently performed in the standard repertoire. Some of his arias, such as “O mio babbino caro” from Gianni Schicchi, “Che gelida manina” from La boh鮥, and “Nessun dorma” from Turandot, have become part of popular culture.
