TIRANA, Sept. 2 – A regional approach is needed to the migrant crisis as thousands of desperate refugees from outside Europe make their way through the Western Balkans to reach Germany and other northern European countries, Albanian Ombudsman Igli Totozani said this week.
Totozani made his comments during a visit to neighboring Kosovo, where he met with his counterpart Hilmi Jashari, who was recently appointed to the post.
Both officials expressed their readiness to increase cooperation among their institutions in their work to protect human rights in both countries.
The People’s Advocate, as the Ombudsman is known in Albania, defends the rights, freedoms and lawful interests of individuals from unlawful and incorrect acts or omissions of public administration bodies as well as third parties acting on its behalf.
