TIRANA, July 30 – The road infrastructure to the Blue Eye Spring, one of main tourist attractions in southern has been reconstructed under a 15 million lek (€105,000) fund by the Albanian government.
The 3-km road leading to the spring and two parking lots have been rehabilitated as well as sewerage infrastructure and pedestrian streets.
A popular tourist attraction, the clear blue water of the river bubbles forth from a stunning, more than fifty-metre-deep pool. Divers have descended to fifty metres, but it is still unclear what the actual depth of the karst hole is.
“Twenty-two kilometres east of Saranda, the Blue Eye Spring is a hypnotic pool of deep-blue water surrounded by electric-blue edges like the iris of an eye. Bring your swimming gear and a towel, as it’s a great spot for a dive into the cold water on a summer’s day. It feeds the Bistrica River and its depth is unknown,” says the Lonely Planet tourist guide about the Blue Eye spring.
